Watched "Down with Love", an early 2000s romcom set in the 1960s.

How skinny Renee Z was at that time! It was slick and showcased an unbelievably rich world with absolutely no dust or dirt.

The story telling was good and bordered on cliches at various points, but I read somewhere that this movie is chock full of references to the romcoms made in t he 60s. The costumes were elaborate and i hated some of them. Having gotten the hatred out of the way, I can say that men looked good as well as the females. The screen play was engaging, and just when you think the ending is going to be terribly regressive, there is a twist that saves it from such a suicide triggering climax.

The themes, already from another period when the film was made are somehow still relevant. I see women all around me yearning for love. Yearning for romance to be a part of their lives in the romcom way. But leave alone romance, the film stays relevant because, it's still hard to get men to contribute financially to the family and emotionally to the said family's harmony.

Getting back to the film, it was funny towards the end. it made fun of people who are successful in their careers and are 'know-it-all" all the time and in every possible life scenario. I liked the acting of the main characters.I saw the rating on IMDB and wonder why it is rated only six. It was quite entertaining to  me and not cringe in most parts. I only found the costumes to be cringe, acttually.

Maybe, it is not highly rated because, the love doesn't seem real. Maybe, because it merely skims the surface of the battle of the sexes as it is avowedly a romcom. But it has happened to me before as it has now, as in when a  movie I liked has an average rating. I also dislike more movies than I like and many of the movies I dislike have a higher rating. Just saying.
